About Wally Schirra

Walter "Wally" Schirra Jr. (1923-2007) was a United States Navy aviator, test pilot, NASA astronaut, and one of the legendary Mercury Seven astronauts. Schirra remains the only astronaut in history to fly missions in all three of NASA's pioneering human spaceflight programs: Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo.

Schirra first flew aboard Mercury-Atlas 8 (Sigma 7), later commanded Gemini 6A, and ultimately commanded Apollo 7, the first crewed Apollo mission following the Apollo 1 tragedy. His contributions helped establish the foundation for the Moon landings and the success of the Apollo Program.
