About Robert M. White

Major General Robert M. White (1924-2010) was one of America's most accomplished test pilots, aerospace pioneers, and military aviators. Best known for his groundbreaking work in the North American X-15 program, White helped push the boundaries of human flight during the dawn of the Space Age.

As an X-15 pilot, White achieved several historic milestones, including becoming one of the first pilots to exceed Mach 4, Mach 5, and Mach 6. In 1962, he flew the X-15 to an altitude exceeding 50 miles, earning recognition as one of the first U.S. Air Force pilots to qualify for astronaut wings.

White's contributions to aerospace research helped pave the way for future manned spaceflight programs and advanced high-speed aircraft development. Following his test pilot career, he continued his distinguished service in the United States Air Force, ultimately attaining the rank of Major General.
