About Joe Foss

Joe Foss (1915-2003) was one of the most decorated American aviators of World War II and one of the United States Marine Corps' greatest fighter aces. Flying the F4F Wildcat during the Guadalcanal Campaign, Foss achieved 26 aerial victories, tying the World War I combat record established by Eddie Rickenbacker.

For his extraordinary heroism and combat leadership, Foss was awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration. Following the war, he continued a remarkable career that included service as Governor of South Dakota, Commissioner of the American Football League, television broadcaster, and tireless advocate for veterans.
