About Joe Foss

General Joe Foss (1915-2003) was a United States Marine Corps fighter pilot, Medal of Honor recipient, and one of America's most celebrated military aviators. During World War II, Foss became the leading Marine Corps ace of the war, recording 26 aerial victories while flying combat missions in the Pacific Theater.

His extraordinary performance during the Guadalcanal Campaign made him a national hero and earned him the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration for valor. Following his military service, Foss continued a remarkable career as Governor of South Dakota, Commissioner of the American Football League, television broadcaster, and advocate for military veterans.
