About George Vaughn Jr.

Captain George Vaughn Jr. (1897-1989) was one of America's leading fighter aces of World War I and a distinguished pilot of the United States Army Air Service. Flying combat missions over the Western Front, Vaughn earned recognition for his exceptional flying skill and combat success during the final stages of the Great War.

Credited with 13 aerial victories, Vaughn ranked among the top American aces of World War I. Serving with the famed 17th Aero Squadron, he flew alongside many of the pioneering aviators who helped establish the traditions and combat tactics of American military aviation.

His accomplishments earned him the Distinguished Service Cross and secured his place among the elite American fighter pilots of the First World War.
