About Gene Kranz

Eugene F. "Gene" Kranz is a former NASA Flight Director whose leadership helped guide some of the most important missions in the history of human spaceflight. During the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs, Kranz became one of the most respected figures in Mission Control and played a critical role in the success of America's early space program.

Kranz is perhaps best known for directing mission operations during the dramatic Apollo 13 crisis in 1970, helping safely return the crew to Earth after an onboard explosion crippled the spacecraft. His leadership, determination, and commitment to excellence inspired the famous phrase "Failure Is Not an Option," making him one of the most iconic figures in NASA history.
