About Curtis LeMay

General Curtis E. LeMay (1906-1990) was one of the most influential military leaders in American history and a key architect of modern strategic air power. During World War II, LeMay commanded bomber units in both Europe and the Pacific, helping develop tactics that dramatically improved the effectiveness of long-range bombing operations.

LeMay is perhaps best known for his leadership of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) during the early Cold War. Under his command, SAC became one of the most powerful military organizations in the world, maintaining the United States' strategic nuclear deterrent and helping shape American defense policy for decades.
