About Walker "Bud" Mahurin

Brigadier General Walker "Bud" Mahurin (1918-2010) was one of America's most accomplished combat pilots and one of the few aviators in history to achieve fighter ace status in both World War II and the Korean War. Serving with the United States Army Air Forces and later the United States Air Force, Mahurin established himself as one of the nation's premier fighter pilots.

During World War II, Mahurin flew the legendary P-47 Thunderbolt and later the P-51 Mustang, earning numerous aerial victories in combat over Europe. He returned to combat during the Korean War, where he again distinguished himself and added to his impressive victory total, becoming one of America's rare double aces.

His remarkable combat career, leadership, and contributions to military aviation earned him numerous decorations and a lasting place among the greatest American fighter pilots of the twentieth century.
