About Rudolph Opitz

Rudolph "Rudi" Opitz (1916-2010) was a German fighter pilot, test pilot, and one of the most important aviators associated with the development and operational use of the revolutionary Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet during World War II.

The Me 163 was the world's first and only operational rocket-powered fighter aircraft, capable of speeds far beyond those of conventional piston-engine fighters of the era. Opitz became one of the aircraft's most experienced pilots and played a significant role in evaluating and operating this groundbreaking design.

Throughout his aviation career, Opitz flew numerous advanced aircraft and gained firsthand experience with some of the most innovative technologies developed during the war.
