About Richard E. Cole and David Thatcher

Lieutenant Colonel Richard E. Cole served as Jimmy Doolittle's co-pilot aboard Aircraft No. 1 during the legendary Tokyo Doolittle Raid.

Staff Sergeant David Thatcher served as engineer-gunner aboard Aircraft No. 7, nicknamed "The Ruptured Duck."Thatcher became especially well known for his heroic actions after his crew crash-landed off the coast of China, helping save and care for injured crew members following the mission.

Both men were among the final surviving Doolittle Raiders and played an important role in preserving the memory of the raid for future generations.
