About John Glenn

John H. Glenn Jr. (1921-2016) was a United States Marine Corps aviator, test pilot, NASA astronaut, and member of the legendary Mercury Seven astronaut group. On February 20, 1962, Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earthaboard the historic Friendship 7 mission, a milestone achievement during the height of the Space Race.

Following his NASA career, Glenn served four terms in the United States Senate representing Ohio and later returned to space aboard Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-95) in 1998, becoming the oldest person to fly in space at that time. His remarkable accomplishments in military aviation, public service, and space exploration secured his place among the most influential Americans of the twentieth century.
