About John Glenn

John H. Glenn Jr. (1921-2016) was a United States Marine Corps aviator, test pilot, NASA astronaut, and member of the legendary Mercury Seven astronaut group. On February 20, 1962, Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earthaboard the historic Friendship 7 mission, a milestone achievement during the Space Race.

Following his NASA career, Glenn served as a United States Senator from Ohio and later returned to space aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1998, becoming the oldest person to fly in space at that time. His remarkable career in military aviation, public service, and space exploration secured his place among the most important figures in American history.
