About Herman E. Ernst

Herman E. Ernst was a distinguished American fighter pilot who served with the renowned 422nd Night Fighter Squadron during World War II. Flying combat missions in one of the most demanding forms of aerial warfare, Ernst became a credited night fighter ace, achieving five aerial victories against enemy aircraft.

Night fighter operations required exceptional flying skill, navigation expertise, and the ability to locate and engage enemy aircraft under the cover of darkness. The 422nd Night Fighter Squadron played an important role in protecting Allied forces and disrupting enemy operations throughout the European Theater of Operations.

As one of the relatively few American night fighter aces of World War II, Ernst occupies a unique place in military aviation history. Today, Herman E.
