About Hal Moore

Lieutenant General Harold G. "Hal" Moore (1922-2017) was one of the most respected military leaders of the twentieth century and a highly decorated United States Army officer whose service spanned World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

Moore is best known for commanding the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment during the historic Battle of Ia Drang in November 1965, the first major engagement between United States forces and the North Vietnamese Army during the Vietnam War. His leadership under extraordinary combat conditions became a defining moment in modern military history.

Following the battle, Moore co-authored the bestselling book "We Were Soldiers Once... and Young," which later inspired the acclaimed motion picture "We Were Soldiers." His courage, leadership, and dedication to his soldiers earned him widespread admiration throughout the military community.
