About Butch Voris

Captain Roy Marlin "Butch" Voris (1921-2005) was a distinguished U.S. Navy aviator, World War II combat veteran, and the founding leader of the Blue Angels, the Navy's legendary flight demonstration team.

Following his combat service during World War II, Voris was selected to organize and lead a new demonstration squadron designed to showcase the professionalism, precision, and capabilities of Naval Aviation. In 1946, he became the first commanding officer and flight leader of the Blue Angels, helping establish what would become one of the most recognized aerial demonstration teams in the world.

Under Voris's leadership, the Blue Angels quickly gained national recognition and became an enduring symbol of excellence, teamwork, and aviation achievement. His contributions helped lay the foundation for a program that continues to inspire millions of spectators each year.
