About the 497th Bomb Group

The 497th Bombardment Group was one of the distinguished B-29 Superfortress units that operated in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Flying from bases in the Mariana Islands, crews of the 497th participated in the strategic bombing campaign against the Japanese home islands during the final months of the war.

Operating the technologically advanced B-29 required exceptional training, teamwork, and courage. Missions often lasted many hours and exposed crews to enemy fighters, anti-aircraft fire, mechanical difficulties, and the challenges of long-distance overwater operations.

The accomplishments of the 497th Bomb Group played an important role in bringing the war in the Pacific to its conclusion.

About "Texas Doll"

The B-29 Superfortress "Texas Doll" became one of the memorable aircraft associated with the strategic bombing campaign against Japan. Today, surviving memorabilia connected to individual B-29 aircraft and their crews remains highly sought after by collectors due to the historic importance of the Superfortress and the limited number of surviving veterans.

About the Boeing B-29 Superfortress
